What does God In a Box mean to you?

It's always amazing and educational to hear different people's interpretations of songs, poetry, books, art, movies and so on. We've heard a number of thoughts on what the song God In a Box means to the listener. Some are very close to the author's intention, some are pretty far afield, and some have no idea. What do you think?

I think I'd be cheating if I told. Because the author filled me in already. But I will say that it's the opposite of the teachings of Thomas Aquinas. I think...

Like Jason I cheated, because all u have 2 do is go 2 the Listen page and click on god in a box. so its about people thinking jehovahs people have put god in a box because Hes not a mystery trinity, He doesnt kill our children because he needs another angel in heaven and He doesnt cause natural disasters. so we get it.

You nailed it, luv4jah. And you actually took it a step further. Yeah, if you just go to http://garyalt.com/music-52.html you'll find the answer. But songs and other arts are still in the eyes of the beholder. I guess I did make it easy by including that page with the lyrics, but there are still a lot of folks that draw conclusions without much searching. It's up to them...

What makes you think your understanding of God is right?

D Brown - That's not the point. A person who would make the statement "you can't put God in a box" to a person who is satisfied with his understanding is assuming HE'S right in his confused state, and that the person he's talking to is wrong in having a clear understanding. I just find it mind-numbing to think that someone would impute a wrong motive to someone who understands Jah's nature, personality and purpose, as if that person made it up for the sake of intellectual contentment. Why did God take such pains to reveal himself to us in his written word, in very simple terms by the way, if he expects to remain a mystery to us? Anyway, my purpose was not to start a religious debate. If you honestly want answers to those kind of questions, I suggest you take it up with the next person who comes to your door talking about the good news of the kingdom. Too much to go into in a blog. Thanks for understanding, D.

beautiful song, sort of a folksy blues feel with thought provoking lyrics. to me its all pretty simple - God is love.
