  1. Falling Down

From the recording Falling Down

Listen to radio interview about this song
Lyrics written with the help of the miracle of e-mail. I had written the music and most of the words, but needed a few more lines and felt stuck. So I e-mailed what I had so far to my friend Gary "Otis" Flood, awkwardly describing the meter and cadences. He immediately sent back the lines I needed, which not only fit the mood and meaning of the song, but enhanced it. I'm always amazed when I listen to this song, since it's so personal to me, that a collaboration could have produced it.

Lyrics

Falling Down

It’s not that I expected you to be around to catch me if I’m falling
It’s just I thought you realized I’d always been there when you needed me
Now I need a place to hide, someone to dig a hole that I can crawl in, crawl in, crawl in
I’m falling, falling, falling
Yeah I’m falling down

I’m calling, I’m calling you now
I’m falling, I’m falling down
I’m bleeding inside
I’m crying and tired
I’m falling, I’m falling down

I’m not as strong as I appear, it’s only that the man inside is hiding
Hiding from the icy wind of winter that has got a hold on me
If I could only sneak away, get off the roller coaster I am riding, riding, riding
I’m sliding, sliding, sliding
Yeah I’m sliding away

Oh I’m calling, I’m calling you now
I’m falling, I’m falling down
I’m bleeding inside
I’m crying and tired
I’m falling, I’m falling down

I’ve been around the world and I’ve seen more than my fair share of people dying
Dying to escape the past and toss away the agonies of life
I guess what I’m asking for is more than just a shoulder for my crying, crying, crying
I’m trying, trying, trying
Trying to stay alive

Oh I’m calling, I’m calling you now
I’m falling, I’m falling down
I’m bleeding inside
I’m crying and tired
I’m falling, I’m falling down

I’m falling down
I’m falling down
Falling, I’m falling down
